Green Bin Program Commenced September 2007
As part of Georgina's ongoing commitment to reducing 65% of waste from landfills, the Town is implementing green bin collection in September 2007. Green bins will be delivered to all households, free of charge, in late August and early September 2007. Green bin collection will commence September 17.
Instead of putting organic waste in the garbage, residents will put it in their new ?Green Bin.? Organic material, such as leftover food waste, plate scrapings, diapers, pet waste and soiled papers, when separated through the Green Bin program will be sent for composting instead of a landfill.
Since organic waste makes up 30-50% of the current typical garbage bag, very little garbage is left over requiring disposal after items have been sorted into the Blue Box and Green Bin.
