Waste Reduction Week in Canada 2014
The Town of Georgina has proclaimed October 20 - 26, 2014 as Waste Reduction Week. For this week, the Waste & Recycling Division is challenging residents and businesses to come together in an effort to see how much solid waste (black bag garbage) can be saved from entering landfills. So far in 2014 Georgina has contributed an average of 350 tonnes of solid waste to landfills monthly.
Let's try and reduce the amount of solid waste Georgina produces to 275 tonnes for the month of October.
How can we achieve this?
By each household and business putting out only one black bag of garbage, along with their blue and green bin recycling, on their regular garbage collection day during the week of October 20.
Community members are encouraged to participate and show their support by picking up an "I Participated in Waste Reduction Week 2014" sticker to place on their one bag of garbage! Stickers may be received at Georgina Public Libraries, the Stephen Leacock Theatre, and the Civic Centre. Numbers will be reported to see how many tonnes are produced!
Let's all come together and team up for one week to see how much we can really accomplish! Visit the Recycling Council of Ontario website for details on Waste Reduction Week 2014. You can also check out the Waste Reduction Week 2014 postcard and share this material with your friends and family in Georgina. For more information, please contact (905) 476-4301 Ext. 2280 or 2303
