Meeting the housing needs of residents is a priority for the Town of Georgina. Housing is fundamental to a healthy, inclusive and thriving community and the number of people who are experiencing challenges finding acceptable and affordable housing continues to grow. Responding to this challenge, the Town is conducting a Housing Needs Assessment (HNA) to identify current and future housing needs, uncover gaps in housing availability, and develop recommendations that will guide local housing policies and infrastructure planning.
As part of the work underway to prepare a Housing Needs Assessment, the Town is engaging the public to obtain feedback. The Town has launched a survey asking residents their experience and thoughts related to housing in Georgina. In addition to the survey, there will be a variety of upcoming engagement activities including community drop-in sessions, stakeholder focus groups as well as discussions with priority populations to gather insights from vulnerable groups such as seniors, youth and individuals experiencing housing insecurity.
The Housing Needs Assessment will help the Town address challenges such as housing affordability, accessibility and supply, while creating opportunities for all residents to find a place to call home. This project will help ensure Georgina can meet the diverse housing needs of its residents and access federal funding through programs such as the Canada Community-Building Fund and Housing Accelerator Fund.
