Watershed conditions statement - flood outlook

The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority advises that warmer weather accompanied by rainfall is expected to begin moving through the watershed today, continuing into tomorrow.  This weather system is expected to bring temperatures well above seasonal values with daytime highs climbing above +6oC. The forecast is currently calling for 15-30mm of rain on Sunday, Dec. 29.

While widespread flooding is not expected, the possibility for flooding in various low-lying areas of the watershed exists due to the expected rainfall and melting of the snowpack. Watercourses will be flowing at higher-than-normal levels, causing local streams and rivers to become dangerous, especially in the vicinity of culverts and bridges. Children and pets should be warned to stay away from all watercourses and slippery banks.

This watershed conditions statement will be in effect through Tuesday, Dec. 31 at noon.
