The Town of Georgina is reopening some recreation facilities for public use. The Georgina Leisure Pool and Georgina Gym will reopen on Sept. 27 for registered drop-in aquatic and recreation programs, and third-party bookings. Registered aquatic lessons and recreation programs will begin Oct. 12 with registration opening on Sept. 28 at 8:30 a.m. COVID-19 safety measures will be in place and will be updated under provincial public health guidelines. Public swims and public skating opportunities will be introduced in late fall at the Georgina Leisure Pool and the Georgina Ice Palace.
As of Sept. 22, 2021, the Town will require proof of vaccination for people to access indoor services and programs/lessons taking place at community centres, arenas, pools and entertainment/cultural venues. Limited exemptions will be made as allowed by the Government of Ontario’s regulations.
To enter a facility, the following will be required:
- Ontario Ministry of Health COVID-19 vaccination certificate or other government-issued vaccination record.
- Acceptable identification which includes name and birthdate – photo ID is not required.
- Examples include birth certificate, citizenship card, driver's licence or other government-issued ID.
Who needs to show proof of vaccination at Town recreation facilities?
- Anyone 18 years and older
- All youth 12-17 years old not actively participating in an organized sport (i.e. public swims, public skates) or as spectators.
Anyone who has been fully vaccinated and requires a vaccine certificate can print or download it from the provincial booking portal. To help residents who may not have access to a printer, Georgina Public Library is providing free printing service for customers requiring a paper copy of a vaccination certificate.
The Town is implementing these procedures in accordance with provincial regulations. Please be patient and respectful with Town staff as they begin implementing these new provincial protocols.
Governing bodies of sport leagues may have more restrictive participation requirements.
As per provincial regulations, anyone who refuses to share the required information will not be allowed to enter Town recreation facilities.
