Province expands eligibility for booster doses of COVID-19 vaccine

The Government of Ontario has announced expanded eligibility for booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, effective Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021.

Based on the recommendation of the Chief Medical Officer of Health and in alignment with the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recent recommendation, the province will begin offering booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to the following vulnerable populations if at least six months have passed since their last dose:

  • Individuals aged 70 and over (born in 1951 or earlier)
  • Health care workers and designated essential caregivers in congregate settings (including long-term care home and retirement home staff and designated caregivers)
  • Individuals who received a complete series of a viral vector vaccine (two doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine or one dose of the Janssen vaccine)
  • First Nation, Inuit and Métis adults and their non-Indigenous household members

Booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will be offered by appointment only at the following York Region and partner vaccination clinics:

  • Georgina Ice Palace – Town of Georgina
  • Armadale Community Centre – City of Markham
  • Oak Valley Health (Markham Stouffville Hospital COVID-19 Assessment Clinic) – City of Markham *limited availability
  • York Region Administrative Centre – Town of Newmarket
  • Richvale Community Centre – City of Richmond Hill
  • Maple Community Centre – City of Vaughan

York Region is working to finalize operational decisions on booster doses and will provide an update when available. Information on when appointment bookings for eligible populations will open will be included. 

Walk-ins and appointments for first and second dose COVID-19 vaccines remain available through York Region’s community hub and pop-up clinics.
