Spring has sprung! Time to spring clean in Georgina

Spring has arrived and that means it’s time for some spring cleaning. It is also a good time to clear out clutter in and around your home. The Town of Georgina has a number of spring-cleaning activities to keep our Town beautiful and help you get rid of unwanted items.

Yard waste pickup

Spring includes the return to yard work and yard waste pickup. Collection resumes every two weeks beginning the week of April 3, until the end of November. Check the waste calendar, download the free Recycle Coach app or visit georgina.ca/WasteandRecycling for details. Contact Green For Life at 1-866-421-5625 or wasteline@gflenv.com with any collection concerns.

Street sweeping

Watch for street sweeping operations to begin in early April, weather permitting. This annual cleaning service removes winter sand from Town roads. If you have sand on your driveway or sidewalk, sweep it onto the edge of the road for removal by the street sweeper. Avoid parking on Town streets during this time to allow sweepers to clean the roadway.

Pitch-In week

April 17 to 23 is Pitch-In Week across Canada. Residents can participate by helping to clean up areas in the community as individuals, families or groups. The Town will provide gloves and bags which can be picked up at the Civic Centre or any branch of Georgina Public Library. Contact Service Georgina at 905-476-4301, ext. 3001 or info@georgina.ca once waste is collected so staff can dispose of it appropriately. To learn more about the event, visit pitch-in.ca.

Curbside giveaway

Clear out the clutter in your home! Curbside Giveaway begins April 29 and runs monthly until October. Put your unwanted items at the curb from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Other residents/neighbours can then take these items free of charge. Any unclaimed items must be removed by 5 p.m. and can only be put to the curb on the selected dates.

Electronic recycling event and Swap n’ Sell

Join us at the Ice Palace on Saturday, May 13 from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. for this popular annual event. Find some deals at the Swap n’ Sell and dispose of any unwanted electronics before you leave. Remember to remove batteries and erase anything stored on your electronic devices before recycling. Vendor participation is free with a donation to the Georgina Community Food Pantry. Prior registration is required.

Sod damage

Sidewalk plowing in the winter presents challenges as it’s hard to tell where the edge of the sidewalk is. When the ground is not frozen, some sod damage may occur. Damage to Town sod, pavement and Town-owned trees will be repaired in the spring months. Residents are asked to report sidewalk or boulevard plow damage by April 1. Visit georgina.ca/snow or contact Service Georgina at 905-476-4301 for assistance.

Adopt-a-Road

Did you know the Town of Georgina offers an adopt-a-road program? This volunteer opportunity benefits everyone who lives, works, or plays in Georgina by helping to keep roadways safe and litter free for all. Anyone can adopt-a-road and make a meaningful contribution to keeping Georgina beautiful.
