Summer ready – Town gears up to welcome warmer weather

It is the unofficial start to summer – the Victoria Day long weekend – and the Town of Georgina is getting ready for the 2023 summer season. Warmer temperatures are on the way and that means summer is not far behind. The Town offers a variety of outdoor recreation areas, parks, beaches, sports fields and splash pads for use by residents and visitors.

Tennis and pickleball courts

Tennis courts, basketball and pickleball courts will be maintained from mid-May through mid-October. Netting has been installed.

Ball diamonds and soccer fields

Regular maintenance will begin on or about May 15 and continue until Oct. 15, weather permitting. Baseball field use begins after the Victoria Day long weekend, providing weather conditions permit.

Splash pads

Splash pads will be open, weather permitting, from June 1 to the end of the Labour Day long weekend. In order to open before June 1, five consecutive days of temperatures 20 Celsius or higher must occur. To learn more and locations, visit georgina.ca/SplashPads.

Amenities and facilities

Parks, trails, playgrounds, Town boat launches and the dog parks are open. Residents and visitors are reminded that barbecues and outdoor cooking devices are not allowed in Town parks or on the beaches where signs are posted.

No parking fines are $100 and no stopping fines are $150 within this area. Visit georgina.ca/parking for more information. Visitors must display a valid parking ticket obtained from the pay-and-display parking machines at the waterfront parks.

Accessible features

The Town offers a number of accessible features at various locations including the Mobi-mat and Mobi-chair at De La Salle Beach, the arm at the ROC, the wheelchair swing at the ROC, and accessible playground equipment at Julia Munro Park. Visit georgina.ca/inclusion to learn more.
