Today, Council received the 2024 draft budget, which proposes a 3.5 per cent increase for operating expenditures and 2 per cent increase for an infrastructure levy for a total tax levy increase of 5.5 per cent. The annual infrastructure levy for capital reserves is necessary to ensure the Town can continue to invest in the capital infrastructure that residents rely upon.
Georgina’s 2024 budget was developed with commitments to investing in the community’s future while providing the most value to residents and businesses. The budget, which includes an operating budget and capital investments, builds on the priorities identified in the new 2023-2027 Strategic Plan. The 2024 budget addresses increasing costs while improving current service levels and allowing for sustainable future planning.
The 2024 draft budget includes –
- $4.5 million on road repairs and reconstruction under the pavement management strategy – funded by grants
- $1.6 million for Building Condition Assessment Program (facility improvements) – funded by the Facilities, Repair and Replacement Reserve
- $1.4 million for Ainslie Hill Park and trail development – funded by development charges and Cash-in-lieu Parkland Reserve
- $1.2 million for water service connections – funded from the Water Infrastructure Repair and Replacement Reserve
- $0.8 million for Parks Repair and Remediation Program – funded by grants and discretionary reserves
The draft budget includes feedback from 352 residents who participated in the Your Budget, Your Say survey online and in hard copy. Residents are encouraged to stay engaged with the budget process by reviewing the draft document and providing comment.
