    Keys for public tap at Black River Rd. and Park Rd. available Oct. 18

    The Town of Georgina is closing three of its four public water taps effective the week of Oct. 18. The taps are being closed due to concerns related to potential backflow and contamination from commercial users who are not permitted to use the taps. Concerns have been reported by both residents and staff. The taps are unmetered and uncontrolled and there is the potential for contaminations of the system through backflow of non-potable water which is a public safety concern. Read the Media Release

    Town launches survey for Pefferlaw Recreation Needs Assessment Study

    The Town of Georgina is reaching out to the community for input about recreational amenities, programs and services in Pefferlaw and the Ward 5 area. The goal is to gain a better understanding of the recreational priorities of Ward 5 residents for future planning.

    “Council has set aside some funds from past budgets for recreational amenities in Ward 5,” said Mayor Margaret Quirk. “There have been many suggestions put forth, including a skateboard park or splash pad, but we want to hear from residents to know what the community’s priorities are.”

    Town of Georgina Council is looking for two people to volunteer in the community as a member of the Equity and Diversity Committee.

    Town ends declaration of emergency for COVID-19 pandemic

    The Town of Georgina has officially ended the declaration of emergency that was declared on March 19, 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The emergency declaration aligned the Town with the Province, granting the Mayor the authority to take such action as she considered necessary to implement the Town’s emergency plan. It also granted the Town the power to protect volunteer emergency workers.

    Committee and board recruitment - Keswick Cemetery and Cooke's Cemetery

    Town of Georgina Council is inviting you to volunteer in the community as a member of one of the following two boards.  

    Keswick Cemetery Board

    To provide information, advice and assistance to Council and staff of the Town of Georgina on the Keswick Cemetery Board. It is the body that governs the operation of the Keswick Cemetery, located at 565 Varney Rd., in accordance with the Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act, 2002.

    National Day for Truth and Reconciliation - flag raising

    In recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the Town of Georgina will hold a special flag raising ceremony at the Civic Centre on Thursday, Sept. 30 at 9 a.m. Flags will also be raised at Ravenshoe Road and Woodbine Avenue.

    Mayor Margaret Quirk, Members of Council and Town staff will join members of the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation for the flag raising event. Residents are welcome to attend at the Civic Centre for this event commemorating the tragedy of residential schools in Canada and their continuing impact on Indigenous communities.
