    The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority advises that conditions are ideal this afternoon and evening for the development of severe thunderstorms. These storms will be capable of producing heavy rainfall of 50 mm within an hour.

    Please slow down road signs offered to residents

    The safety of all road users in the Town of Georgina is a priority. Residents can help remind the public to be aware of pedestrians by displaying “Please Slow Down” lawn signs on private property. These signs are a way of making motorists more aware of their speed as they travel in residential areas.

    These signs are available free of cost to residents who are interested. Visit the ROC roundabout on Saturday, July 17 from 9 a.m. to noon to pick up a sign. One sign per household while quantities last.

    Signs can be displayed from April 1 to Nov. 30.

    Watershed Conditions Statement - Flood Outlook

    The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority advises showers and thunderstorms are forecast for today in our watershed, capable of producing locally heavy rainfall accumulations of 30-50mm. Higher amounts of rainfall may occur in localized areas.

    The forecasted rainfall may result in flooding of low lying areas. All watercourses in our area will experience higher than normal water levels and flows. As a result, local streams and rivers will become dangerous, especially in the vicinity of culverts and bridges. Children should be warned to stay away from all watercourses.

    Town to hold community cleanup week of July 19 to 23

    Pitch-In Week is usually held in the spring. It was missed this year due to the stay-at-home order. The Town is now holding it the week of July 19 to 23, 2021.

    Residents can pick up bags and gloves at the Civic Centre starting Monday, July 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the front door, while supplies last.

    Once you have completed a cleanup in your area, advise Customer Service by calling 905-476-4301 and pickup will be arranged.

    Water meter replacement program in south Keswick

    A water meter replacement program is taking place in south Keswick starting the week of July 12, 2021. The approximately 300 affected homes will be notified by the Town.

    These meters have reached the end of their lifecycle and a mandatory replacement is required. The Town is working with Neptune Technology Group to complete the replacements and these staff will be carrying photo ID badges.

    The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority advises that significant rainfall is forecast for today through Tuesday in our watershed, with predicted rainfall accumulations of 50-100+ mm. Higher amounts of rainfall may occur in localized areas as a result of thunderstorm activity.

    York Region opening additional COVID-19 vaccine appointments

    The Regional Municipality of York is continuing to deliver COVID-19 vaccines to eligible individuals as quickly as possible.

    On Friday, June 25, 2021 at 8 a.m., approximately 38,000 COVID-19 vaccine appointments will be available to individuals age 12+ who live, work or go to school in York Region looking to book a first dose OR individuals 18+ who have received their first dose of an mRNA vaccine on or before May 30, 2021 and wish to book an earlier second dose.

    Burlap giveaway on June 19, 2021 at Civic Centre

    Town staff will be at the Civic Centre roundabout on Saturday, June 19, 2021 to hand out free burlap between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.

    Residents are encouraged to use burlap on their trees to help limit damage from Lymantria dispar dispar (LDD). The burlap will be given out on a first-come first-serve basis while quantities last. There is a two-piece limit per household.
