Call2Recycle partners with Georgina Fire and Rescue Services to educate community about Smart Containers

Call2Recycle, Canada’s leading battery collection and recycling organization, is proud to highlight its collaboration with Georgina Fire and Rescue Services to promote safety in battery recycling. This partnership highlights a shared commitment to ensuring safe disposal practices and preventing potential fire hazards associated with improperly discarded batteries. Call2Recycle is committed to collecting and recycling as many batteries as possible and is pleased to partner with fire services such as Georgina Fire and Rescue Services to improve safety.

Call2Recycle introduced its innovative Smart Containers about a year ago. These high-tech containers are designed to safely collect and store batteries, minimizing the risks of fires caused by battery mishandling. Since its inception in 1997, Call2Recycle has safely recycled over 55 million kilograms of batteries.

“Safety is always our top priority, and we are excited to work alongside Georgina Fire and Rescue Services to educate the community on the importance of proper battery recycling,” said Joseph Chung, Vice-President Account Management at Call2Recycle. “By utilizing our smart containers, we aim to reduce the dangers posed by discarded batteries, particularly lithium-ion batteries, which can be prone to overheating and fires.”

Georgina Fire and Rescue Services recognizes the growing issue of battery-related fires and the importance of safe disposal. Community outreach to educate residents on how to safely recycle their batteries is a big focus for Georgina Fire. By endorsing Call2Recycle’s program, fire services emphasize their support for innovative solutions that reduce potential risks to public safety.

“We are pleased to support Call2Recycle’s efforts to promote safe battery disposal,” said Ron Jenkins, Fire Chief of Georgina Fire and Rescue Services. “This partnership underscores our commitment to fire prevention and our role in educating the public on best practices for keeping their homes and communities safe.”

With the growing use of batteries in everyday electronics, Call2Recycle provides accessible, safe and environmentally responsible consumer solutions. Through collaborations like this, Call2Recycle continues to build a safer, greener future for all.
