Celebrate September in Georgina

The summer may be ending, but there is still lots to do in Georgina in September. Enjoy Harvestfest at Georgina Pioneer Village or come out to Georgina Fire and Rescue Services Open House. You can also get ready for fall by clearing out your unwanted items during bag tag exemption week or at the eWaste event happening at the Georgina Ice Palace.

Starlight Cinema Nights
Join us under the stars for a free movie. The final two movies for Starlight Cinema Night take place Sept. 7 at 8 p.m. Come out and see the Garfield Movie at Pefferlaw Park or at West Park. Annual Georgina Mayor’s Charity Motorcycle Ride and Poker Run
Mark your calendar for the Georgina Mayor’s Charity Motorcycle Ride and Poker Run benefiting Sutton Legion Branch #356, on Saturday, Sept. 7. The ride begins at the ROC Chalet. Registration starts at 9 a.m. with coffee, tea and muffins. “Kickstands up” is at 10 a.m. followed by a four-hour scenic tour ending at the Sutton Legion with a barbecue, prizes and silent auction.

Electronic Recycling Event
Wondering what to do with your old electronics? Back by popular demand is Georgina's Electronic Recycling Event in the back parking lot of the Georgina Ice Palace on Sept. 14 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is your opportunity to dispose of old, unused or broken electronics to be recycled, free of charge. Items could include cables, gaming systems, phones, cameras and camcorders, fax machines and more. Remember to remove all batteries/packaging and data from these items before bringing them for disposal.

Harvestfest at Georgina Pioneer Village
The Georgina Historical Society presents Harvestfest at Georgina Pioneer Village on Sept. 21. Join us from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to experience craft vendors, flowers, vegetables, snacks and music throughout the village. Bring the whole family for a day of fun. Admission: pay what you can in support of Georgina Historical Society.

Bag Tag Exemption Week 
Take advantage of Bag Tag Exemption Week from Sept. 23 to 26. Georgina residents can put out up to five untagged bags, items or containers for collection. Large non-recyclable household items are included in the program. Items that cannot be collected include refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers and hot water tanks. Georgina Fire and Rescue Services Open House
Residents are invited to come out on Sept. 21 for the annual Georgina Fire and Rescue Services Open House from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sutton Fire Hall at 37 Snooks Rd. Meet the firefighters, see the fire trucks and have some fun! Enjoy a free pancake breakfast or a BBQ in the afternoon. There will be activities for all ages including a search and rescue maze, a live side-by-side burn demonstration, a bouncy castle and displays from community partners.

Curbside Giveaway
The next Curbside Giveaway is Sept. 28. Put your unwanted items at the curb from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for other residents/neighbours to take free of charge. All unclaimed items must be removed by 5 p.m.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
On Sept. 30, 2024, in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the Town of Georgina, in partnership with the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation, will hold a flag raising event at the Civic Centre. Residents are welcome to attend this event commemorating the tragedy of residential schools in Canada and their continuing impact on Indigenous communities.
