Georgina Fire and Rescue Services has received a $29,527 grant from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada to ensure first responders have the necessary equipment to keep community members and themselves safe. The grant will be used to purchase a Digital Vehicular Repeater System (DVRS) for Rescue 189, allowing the department to improve and maintain communications during an incident.
“We are grateful to the foundation and Firehouse Subs in East Gwillimbury for awarding us this grant,” said Ron Jenkins, Fire Chief of Georgina Fire and Rescue Services. “The new DVRS will fulfill a critical need within our department and allow our first responders to better help the people of the Town of Georgina during emergency situations.”
The P25 DVRS (Digital Vehicular Repeater System) is a small, rugged, self-contained, 10W radio base station integrated with Motorola remote mount APX™ or XTL™ series mobile radios that improves portable radio coverage for fire and other emergency personnel by using the higher power of the mobile radio in the vehicle to extend the range of the portable back to the radio system. It is a rapid deployment repeater designed to bring two-way portable radio communications to a critical incident, command post, or special event. Communication between dispatch/command and the firefighters ensures the health and safety of all firefighters, so it is a much-needed solution that will keep firefighters connected in the moments that matter.
The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada has awarded 351 grants to public safety organizations since 2015. This grant is one of 19 Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada awarded to public safety organizations during the most recent grant cycle. The 19 grants will provide critical lifesaving equipment valued at more than $530,000 across Canada.
