Ready for summer – Town is prepared for warmer weather

The Victoria Day long weekend is the unofficial start to summer and the Town of Georgina is gearing up for a fun-filled summer season. Warmer temperatures are on the way and that means summer is not far behind. The Town offers a variety of outdoor recreation areas, parks, beaches, sports fields and splash pads for use by residents and visitors. 

Tennis, basketball, beach volleyball and pickleball courts  
Tennis, basketball, beach volleyball and pickleball courts will be maintained from May through mid-October. Netting has been installed. Enjoy your game.

Ball diamonds and soccer fields
Regular maintenance will begin on or about May 15 and continue until Oct. 15, weather permitting. Baseball field use begins after the Victoria Day long weekend, providing weather conditions permit.

Pefferlaw Sports Zone
The Pefferlaw Sports Zone is open for use. The Sports Zone features a number of amenities including a basketball court, one multi-use court and two pickleball courts.

The ROC – Challenge Course, Vertical Playground, Rock Climbing and Zip Line
Complete with both high and low ropes challenge courses, vertical playground, rock climbing wall and zipline, the ROC takes fun to new heights! Suitable for ages 6 years and up (must be 10 years or older to access high ropes course and zipline). Drop-in opportunities available each Monday evening and Saturday afternoon starting June 1 through to Sept. 30. Visit georginaroc.ca to reserve a spot. 

The ROC – Bike Park and North Shore Trails
Experience the boulders, bridges, rock gardens, skinnies, rollers and jumps, guaranteed to challenge riders and build skills. The ROC Bike Park and North Shore Trails open for the season on May 17. A certified helmet is strongly recommended. Unsupervised, use at own risk. Open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Victoria Day to Thanksgiving.

Splash pads   
Splash pads will be open, weather permitting, from mid-June to mid-September. In order to open before mid-June, five consecutive days of temperatures 20 Celsius or higher must occur. To learn more and for locations, visit georgina.ca/SplashPads.

Amenities and facilities
Parks, trails, playgrounds, Town boat launches and the leash-free dog parks are open. Residents and visitors are reminded that barbecues and outdoor cooking devices are not allowed in Town parks or on the beaches where signs are posted.

Resident parking pass
Residents are required to display a 2024 resident parking pass to park in the municipal lots. Parking passes are available online at georgina.ca/ParkingPass. Visitors are required to purchase a valid parking ticket from pay-and-display machines at waterfront parks. 

Parking
No parking fines and no stopping fines are in effect for the Waterfront Park Buffer Zone. This includes the entire shoreline area of Lake Simcoe and Town roads in lakeside neighbourhoods. No parking fines are $100 and no stopping fines are $150 within this area. Visit georgina.ca/parking for more information. Visitors must display a valid parking ticket obtained from the pay-and-display parking machines at the waterfront parks. 

Accessible features
The Town offers a number of accessible features at various locations including the Mobi-mat and Mobi-chair at De La Salle Beach, the arm at the ROC, the wheelchair swing at the ROC, and accessible playground equipment at Julia Munro Park. Visit georgina.ca/inclusion to learn more. 

Fireworks
Residents are reminded they can set off fireworks without a licence on Victoria Day and Canada Day only, as well as the day before and after each of these holidays. A licence is needed to set off fireworks on any other day of the year. To learn more, visit georgina.ca/fireworks.

Fires
Permit applications for agricultural and open-air burn permits are available online. The permit fee is $35 for the calendar year. Residents can have recreational fires and they do not require a permit. Visit georgina.ca/BurnPermit to learn more.

Garage sale permits 
Everyone loves a good garage sale and in Georgina, that means getting a garage sale permit. The free permit is available online and once submitted, residents will receive a confirmation email that the permit application has been received. Residents are allowed to have three garage sales each calendar year. Visit georgina.ca/GarageSales to learn more.
