The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority advises that a low-pressure system is forecasted to move through the watershed Friday through Sunday. This system is expected to bring 10-15 mm of rain on Friday, and upwards of 35 mm of rain on Saturday. In total, up to 45 mm of rain may be experienced in parts of the Lake Simcoe watershed.
There is currently little to no snow cover on the ground due to the warmer than usual temperatures over the last several weeks. However, the ground may still be wet or partially frozen, resulting in a rapid runoff response from any rain.
While widespread flooding is not expected, the possibility for flooding in various low-lying areas of the watershed exists due to the expected rainfall. Also, the warmer temperatures will continue to reduce or eliminate ice cover in creeks and rivers, resulting in dangerous ice conditions. Children and pets should be warned to stay away from all watercourses and slippery banks.
Water Safety
Please exercise extreme caution around all bodies of water. Please alert any children under your care to stay away from all watercourses and other bodies of water; and supervise their activities.
Residents, especially in the historically flood prone areas, are advised to take necessary precautions to protect themselves, their pets and their property.
This Watershed Conditions Statement will be in effect through Tuesday, March 12, 2024, or until otherwise updated.
