Spring into action: Join Georgina in celebrating Earth Month

As the chill of winter fades and the warmth of spring beckons, the Town invites you to embrace the season of renewal with a community-wide commitment to cleaning and caring for our beautiful Georgina. Celebrate Earth Month with us by participating in a range of activities designed to spruce up our community, declutter our homes, plant trees and connect with our neighbours.

Street sweeping
Street sweeping operations take place each spring to remove winter sand from Town roads. Residents are asked to sweep unwanted sand from their driveways and sidewalks over the curb and onto the edge of the road by April 1 for removal by the street sweeper. Weather permitting, the street sweeping program will begin in mid-April. Street sweeping occurs weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Residents are asked to avoid parking on Town streets during this time to allow sweepers to clean the roadway.

Yard waste pickup
Yard waste pickup collection resumes the week of April 14 and continues every other week until Dec. 11. Check the waste calendar, download the free Recycle Coach app or visit georgina.ca/WasteandRecycling for details. Contact Green For Life at 1-866-421-5625 or wasteline@gflenv.com with any collection concerns.

Pitch-In week
April 14 to 20 is Pitch-In Week across Canada. Residents can participate by helping to clean up areas in the community as individuals, families or groups. The Town provides gloves and bags which can be picked up at the Civic Centre. Contact Service Georgina at 905-476-4301, ext. 3001 or info@georgina.ca once waste is collected so staff can dispose of it appropriately.

Tree giveaway
Save the date! The Town will celebrate Earth Day by giving away trees at the ROC on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Two trees per vehicle. More details to come.

Curbside Giveaway
Clear out the clutter in your home. Curbside Giveaway begins April 26 and runs monthly until October. Put unwanted items at the curb from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Other residents/neighbours can then take these items free of charge. Any unclaimed items must be removed by 5 p.m. and can only be put to the curb on the selected dates.

Electronic recycling event and Swap n’ Sell
Join us at the Ice Palace on Saturday, May 10 from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. for this popular annual event. Find some deals at the Swap n’ Sell and dispose of any unwanted electronics that are taking up space. Remember to remove batteries and erase anything stored on your electronic devices before recycling. Vendor participation is free with a donation to the Georgina Community Food Pantry. Prior registration is required by calling Service Georgina at 905-476-4301, ext. 3001 or info@georgina.ca.

Adopt-a-Road
Did you know the Town of Georgina offers an Adopt-a-Road program? This volunteer opportunity benefits everyone who lives, works, or plays in Georgina by helping to keep roadways safe and litter free for all. Anyone can adopt-a-road and make a meaningful contribution to keeping Georgina beautiful.
