Statement on the passing of former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney

The following is a statement from Mayor Margaret Quirk on the passing of former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney:

“On behalf of Members of Council and the Town of Georgina, we were saddened to learn of the passing of former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, Canada’s 18th prime minister.

We remember his dedication to Canada and thank him for his lengthy service to our country. He served as prime minister from 1984 to 1993 and was first elected with the largest margin of victory for a political party in Canadian history. Mr. Mulroney helped shape the politics of our country and its economy.

The Town will have a book of condolences available for the public to sign. It will be at the Multi-Use Recreation Complex on Saturday, March 2, 2024, and then available at the Civic Centre beginning on Monday, March 4.

We extend our condolences to his family, his wife Mila, sons Ben, Mark and Nicolas, and daughter Caroline, MPP for York-Simcoe serving as the President of the Treasury Board of Ontario and Minister of Francophone Affairs.

The Town has lowered flags at Town facilities.”
