Town celebrating Earth Month with environmental initiatives

To mark Earth Month, the Town of Georgina is recognizing its partners who are funding environmental initiatives in the community this year.

  • The Regional Municipality of York provided funding to plant more than 250 trees at locations including Thornlodge Drive, Keswick North and South, Julia Munro Park, West Park, Keswick Cemetery, Bonnie Park, Roselm Retention Pond, Multi-Use Recreation Complex (MURC) and the Civic Centre.
  • The Regional Municipality of York provided $5,000 in funding through the Greening Action Partnership Fund to plant wildflower gardens, converting one acre of lawn at the ROC into a naturalized native wildflower meadow.
  • Canadian Trees for Life and the Regional Municipality of York – Funding to local non-profit partner Local Enhancement and Appreciation of Forests (LEAF) who will be coordinating a community tree planting of 1,000 native trees and shrubs in Georgina in fall 2025.
  • Canadian Wildlife Federation – $4,000 through the Rights-of-Way as Habitat Program to convert one hectare of lawn beside two local Georgina schools into wildflower meadows. The project will help teach students about diverse ecosystems and pollinators.
