Town declares winter maintenance event and significant weather event

The Town is declaring a Significant Weather Event and a Winter Maintenance Event, effective today, Feb. 15, 2025, at 4 p.m. Parked vehicles must be removed from all Town roads until further notice.

As per the Ontario Municipal Act, a municipality may declare a significant weather event when a weather hazard, either forecast or occurring, has the potential to pose a significant danger to users of the roadways in which they have authority. This declaration suspends the standard timelines required for municipalities to meet their winter maintenance objectives.

Here are some important things to remember –

  • Drive according to weather conditions, remember to be patient with snowplows, and allow extra time and space when driving in snowy conditions.
  • The Town understands that windrows caused by road snow plowing can be frustrating for residents. However, to effectively plow the road, windrows cannot be avoided.
  • Check the online winter operations tracker to see when a plow is near you.
  • Priority routes are cleared first, followed by secondary routes.
  • Many factors, including emergency vehicle routes and fire stations, traffic volumes, transit routes and more, determine priority routes.
  • Residents who participate in the windrow clearing program can expect to see service after a minimum of 7.5 centimetres (three inches) of snowfall and within 24 hours after the plowing of roads and sidewalks has been completed.

If you have a roads concern after hours, call 905-476-4301 and follow the prompts to reach after-hours on-call services.
