Once again, the Town of Georgina is celebrating Earth Day by giving away trees at the ROC on Saturday, April 26, 2025. Canadian Trees for Life provided a grant to the Town to support this initiative. Through its vendor, Brookdale Treeland Nurseries, the Town also received a donation of more than 300 trees.
“Building on the relationship that began last year with Canadian Trees for Life, the Town is pleased to be celebrating Earth Day with this tree giveaway. I would like to thank Canadian Trees for Life for the generous grant which allowed the Town to purchase trees for this event. Planting trees is not just an investment in nature, but in the well-being of our community,” said Mayor Margaret Quirk. “We are grateful for the support of this organization that is working to grow the tree canopy and create healthier communities.”
The event takes place at the ROC from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Town has three different varieties of trees in two-gallon pots – Red Maple, Red Oak and Black Cedar. There are 2,000 trees available and Georgina residents are allowed two per vehicle. Request for a specific tree species is not guaranteed. It is first come, first served.

A healthy acre of trees absorbs enough carbon dioxide over one year to equal the amount produced by driving a car 26,000 miles. A healthy urban forest contributes to physical and mental health, as well as the overall social wellness, of residents and wildlife populations.
“Congratulations for your commitment to plant trees to enhance the beauty and environment of Georgina,” said Canadian Trees for Life founder and chair, Mark Cullen. “We are thrilled that Georgina shares our organization’s goal to maximize the urban forest for the many benefits trees provide to society. Planting a tree is a gift to future generations."
Canadian Trees for Life is a national charity with a mission to create a healthier, happier Canada by planting native trees where we live, work and play.
