Watershed conditions - water safety

The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority advises that a low-pressure system will move through the watershed Thursday through Friday. Environment Canada and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry’s (MNRF) Surface Water Monitoring Centre (SWMC) are forecasting 20-25 mm of rainfall on Thursday, and 5-10 mm of rainfall on Friday.

There is currently no snow cover on the ground due to the warmer than usual temperatures. However, the ground may still be saturated resulting in a rapid runoff response.

While widespread flooding is not expected, the possibility for flooding in various low-lying areas of the watershed exists due to the expected rainfall. Watercourses will be flowing higher than normal causing local streams and rivers to become dangerous, especially in the vicinity of culverts and bridges. Children should be warned to stay away from all watercourses.

This Watershed Conditions Statement will be in effect through Monday, April 15, 2024.
