Stormwater rate

The Town is introducing a new stormwater management charge on the 2024 final property tax bill. It will fund and support our stormwater system, which protects property and the environment from flooding and erosion, and poor water quality. The separate stormwater charge is for all residential, commercial and industrial properties. This is not a new fee but a change in the funding source. Stormwater initiatives will no longer be funded through general property taxes.

Eat Local while enjoying Georgina’s beaches

This summer, expect to see vendors at De La Salle Park and Willow Beach. The new vendor pilot program allows for two food vendors and up to two rotating vendors at De La Salle Park and two vendors at Willow Beach, with a preference given to food and local vendors.

Did you know? There are also designated food delivery parking spots where beachgoers can enjoy a meal from one of many local restaurants that provide delivery. Just direct the food delivery driver to the beach address listed on the sign at the dedicated spot to ensure your food is delivered right to you.

Beaches and waterfront parks

Are you planning to visit one of Georgina’s beaches and waterfront parks this summer? There are a few things to remember besides the sunscreen.

  • Barbecues or other cooking devices are not allowed on beaches or in the parks.
  • Please don’t litter. Dispose of garbage in the waste receptacles.
  • No dogs are permitted on the beach area.
  • Parking lots are available to resident parking pass holders and visitors. A valid parking ticket from a pay-and-display machine must be displayed by visitors.

It’s construction season!

Keep an eye out for road upgrades throughout town including micro-surfacing, rout and seal, mill and pave, and major reconstruction work like the Black River Road reconstruction project beginning summer 2024. Water service replacements on Bayview Avenue, Royal Road, Elmhurst Lane and Love’s Road will take place in 2024. Road surfaces will be restored with asphalt patches, and following a one year warranty, will be entirely resurfaced. During active construction, please obey temporary traffic conditions to ensure our staff and contractors stay safe.

There are hundreds of infrastructure, parks and facilities project locations being delivered throughout 2024. Find out about park upgrades, stormwater design and dam rehabilitation work by visiting Building Georgina and using the interactive map.

Pefferlaw Pump Track and Skatepark opening

Get ready to shred! Pefferlaw is buzzing with excitement as the new pump track and skatepark are set to open on Saturday, June 22, 2024, with the ribbon cutting taking place at 1 p.m. This welcome addition to Pefferlaw Park promises thrills for all ages.

Trail expansion and park amenities improvements

The Town will be improving and enhancing the existing pedestrian trail and park amenities in Pefferlaw Park. Work will include the expansion of the existing pedestrian trail to create an active walking loop with outdoor fitness stations positioned around the trail.

The design will focus on expanding the existing limestone screening trail network while connecting all new recreation facilities together into one cohesive park design. Construction for the trail improvements is scheduled to be completed in 2024.

Replacement Civic Centre update

The Replacement Civic Centre contract has been awarded to Maystar General Contractors Inc. The new building, to be located on the same property as the current Civic Centre building, was designed with accessibility, sustainability and energy efficiency in mind to create a functional space for staff and residents both now and in the future.

Building condition assessments completed in 2016 and 2022, identified many accessibility improvements as well as a number of health, safety and operational deficiencies.

The overall project budget was approved by Council at $54.1M. This budget accounts for the new building and demolition of the current Civic Centre, effective taxes, design and contract administration, all furniture, fixtures and equipment including AV and IT, all past site testing, surveying and consultant reporting, future testing and commissioning as well as contingency funds.

Funding for the Replacement Civic Centre comes from a combination of a short-term debenture and internal borrowings against Town reserves. The project budget is expected to be fully repaid within 13.5 years of the completed Replacement Civic Centre building with no additional tax increases related to the new building in future budgets.

The process of building a new standalone Civic Centre started in March 2018.
