Whether you are dining at your favourite restaurant or shopping for the perfect gift, every purchase makes a big difference. To support our business community, the Georgina Chamber of Commerce, with the support of the Town of Georgina, launched a 'shop local' campaign.
Shop Local Contest
The Georgina Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Town of Georgina, has launched a Shop Local Georgina contest. Between now and the end of March, any time you spend over $50 (before tax) at a Georgina business you can submit your receipt for a chance to win one of 10 $100 gift cards (to the local businesses of your choice).
Submit receipts online at shoplocalgeorgina.ca or drop them off at a designated drop box location.

Why is it important to shop locally?
When you shop at small businesses, you’re doing more than spending money – you’re supporting local entrepreneurs and your community as a whole. Data shows local retailers return more than 50 per cent of their revenue into the local economy, compared to just 14 per cent for national chains. Instead of buying online from large chains this year, think about how beneficial it would be to support a small business owner's family.

Small businesses make up 98 per cent of our economy, so they may be small, but their contribution is enormous. This means their impact on the local job market is also monumental – approximately 70 per cent of the labour force, to be exact. These businesses provide jobs to you, your children, your neighbours and your friends.

Georgina is home to several incredibly talented artists and artisans, many of whom are showcased by the Georgina Studio Tour, Georgina Centre for Arts and Culture, and many local shops throughout the Town. When you shop locally, you invest in these talented artists and support the growth of arts and culture in our community.
You’re offering fresh food options
There are many local farmers in Georgina who sell directly to consumers. Supporting them to provide a meal for your loved ones not only gives you another outlet to support a local business but is also environmentally friendly. Show our farmers that you appreciate the work they do.

When you shop at a local small business, you have the opportunity to chat with your neighbours and residents, who can help you choose the perfect gift and provide a personalized experience that you just can’t find at larger chains. You may also find many local businesses work together to deliver exclusive deals or recommendations for other goods and services you may be shopping for.
