Safe Streets Monitoring Program

In an effort to improve road safety, the Town has developed a Safe Streets Policy which includes a speed limit monitoring program. The Safe Streets Monitoring Program will use Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras with the goal of encouraging posted speed limit compliance and increasing overall safety for the community. Five cameras will be installed – one in each ward – in Community Safety Zones. The cameras will become operational beginning April 10.

Tickets will be issued by the Town and will be mailed to the registered licence plate holder on file with the Province of Ontario. The fine amounts are regulated and established by the province.

Tickets issued (penalty orders) and the dispute process will be facilitated through the Town’s Administrative Monetary Penalty System. The penalty is a monetary fine and no demerit points will be issued.

Spring clean, Georgina style!

Spring is in the air and that means spring cleaning! Along with regular curbside blue box, green bin and waste collection, the Town has plenty of programs to help you get rid of unwanted items.

  • Yard waste collection — Week of April 14 until week of Dec. 7. Yard waste is collected on your regular biweekly blue box and green bin collection days.
  • Curbside Giveaway Days — Monthly from April to October. On select days, place gently used items labelled ‘free’ at the curb from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Textile recycling — Bring unwanted textiles such as clothing, footwear, towels, pillows and curtains to textile recycling bins located at the Georgina Ice Palace, Civic Centre and the Georgina Sutton Arena.
  • eWaste, Swap n’ Sell Event — Find some great deals and get rid of any unwanted electronics May 10, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Georgina Ice Palace.
  • Bag tag exemption week – Take advantage of Bag Tag Exemption Week from May 19 to May 23, with an additional week in September. Georgina residents can put out up to five untagged bags, items or containers for collection. Large non-recyclable household items are included in the program. Items that cannot be collected include refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers and hot water tanks.

Lake Drive Improvements

The Lake Drive Improvements Project (phase one) will transform how we experience this popular stretch of road. This summer, you’ll notice changes as the Town implements a new multi-use pathway on Lake Drive East from Civic Centre Road to Dalton Road, offering a safer and more enjoyable space for all. The north lane along Lake Simcoe will feature a multi-use pathway, perfect for walking, cycling and enjoying the scenic views. The south lane will be a one-way eastbound vehicular lane. Several new pedestrian crossings will be added, making it easier to connect to the beach and enjoy the lakefront. Whether you’re walking, cycling or driving, these improvements will make it safer and provide greater access to our beautiful community.

High Street improvements in Sutton

Did you know? High Street in Sutton is set for major redevelopment. The High Street improvement project will enhance the streetscape and upgrade infrastructure along a section of the road. It will also upgrade and modernize the local road, stormwater and water supply infrastructure to meet current standards and achieve the required service levels for the long term.

Pefferlaw Park: Trail expansion and park amenities improvements

The pedestrian trail was expanded in fall 2024 and the design extended the existing limestone screening trail network to connect new recreation facilities into one cohesive space. Residents can take their workouts outside with the recent addition of fitness equipment to the walking loop.

Blue box transition

Due to a provincial change, the Town will transition its blue box recycling program to Circular Materials on Dec. 31, 2025. Beginning Jan. 1, 2026, producers will be fully responsible for providing Blue Box services throughout the province. This change will streamline the recycling of products and packaging throughout Ontario. Until this transition date, no changes to regular collection are expected. As more details about post-transition collection become available, they will be shared with residents.
