    More Town facilities reopen

    The Town of Georgina is reopening some recreation facilities for public use. The Georgina Leisure Pool and Georgina Gym will reopen on Sept. 27 for registered drop-in aquatic and recreation programs, and third-party bookings. Registered aquatic lessons and recreation programs will begin Oct. 12 with registration opening on Sept. 28 at 8:30 a.m. COVID-19 safety measures will be in place and will be updated under provincial public health guidelines.

    Watershed Conditions Statement - Flood Outlook

    The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority advises that that the Surface Water Monitoring Centre of the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry is forecasting a large, slow-moving frontal system to enter the Lake Simcoe watershed tonight and through tomorrow. The front is expected to bring widespread rainfall into the watershed, with 40- 60mm expected before Thursday, and the possibility of embedded thunderstorms contributing an additional 10-20mm.

    Watershed Conditions Statement - Flood Outlook

    The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority advises that significant rainfall is forecast for today in our watershed with showers and thunderstorms expected this evening. Environment Canada has issued a Special weather statement for the Barrie area, with predicted rainfall accumulations of 30-50mm (higher amounts possible) by Wednesday morning.  

    Other areas of the watershed have predicted rainfall accumulations of 20-25mm. Higher amounts of rainfall may occur in localized areas as a result of thunderstorm activity.

    Town sets high standards for water quality

    The Town of Georgina and York Region maintain high water quality standards to provide safe drinking water through the municipal distribution system. The Town has a comprehensive sampling and testing program of water taken directly from the watermains at locations throughout the community. This ensures the water delivered to your home or business meets or exceeds all water quality requirements. All water samples are collected by water operators licensed by the Ministry of Environment, Parks and Conservation. All samples are tested at a ministry accredited laboratory.

    Get involved in Georgina’s 2022 Budget process

    The Town is developing the 2022 Budget and wants to hear from you. Georgina passes a budget every year to determine how funds are given out throughout the community. Tax dollars go towards a variety of programs and services which your family relies on and uses every day – from snow clearing and waste collection to road work and recreation programs.

    In 2022, property tax increases may once again be impacted by increased pressures related to the COVID-19 pandemic, economic recovery and investing in infrastructure.

    New public input sessions for Waterfront Parks Master Plan

    Did you know the Town is working on a Waterfront Parks Master Plan? We’ve received a lot of great feedback and are reaching out again to find out what you think of the updated design concepts. There are several ways to participate.

    In-person public consultation sessions:
    Aug. 21 – Willow Beach 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and De La Salle 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. 
    Aug. 28 – Jackson’s Point Harbour 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Holmes Point 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. 
    Sept. 1 – De La Salle 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

    Town receives provincial funding for Georgina Winter Classic

    The Town of Georgina is a 2021 recipient of the Reconnect Festival and Event program, and will receive $61,780 for the Georgina Winter Classic – A Series of Community Events. The program (known as Celebrate Ontario prior to the COVID-19 pandemic) was developed to help festival and event organizers adapt to new public health measures with virtual, drive-thru and other safe offerings.

    Starlight Cinema Night at the ROC cancelled due to weather

    The Starlight Cinema Night featuring Scoob! at the ROC for tonight, Aug. 11, has been cancelled due to weather. Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for northern York Region.
