Black History Month was officially recognized in Canada after a motion was introduced by the Honourable Jean Augustine, the first Black Canadian woman elected to Parliament. This February, learn more about Black history in Canada.

The Town of Georgina recognizes and celebrates the month of February as ‘Black History Month’. This is an opportunity to recognize the legacy of black Canadians, and to celebrate and commemorate the legacy, history and achievements black Canadians have made and continue to make in our community and country.

Noteworthy figures

Read the biographies of some notable Black people in Canada who have helped shape Canadian heritage and identity, and who have made and continue to make enormous contributions to the wellbeing, and prosperity of our country.

Jamaican Dance Hall

Jamaican Dance Hall

Learn the basics of authentic Jamaican dancehall in this super fun beginner movement practice. This class will leave you feeling empowered with dope dance moves and aid in womb, abdomen, and pelvic floor healing.

Program Layout

  • Week 1: Slow wine
  • Week 2: Fast wine

  • Week 4: Chest roll
Each session includes 30 minutes of dancing.
Learn a complete dance by week four.

Instruction, history and fun.
Learn the basics, like hair types, scalp care, parting, twists, canerows and boxbraids in this four-part work shop!

  • Week 4: Boxbraids
Each session includes 60 minutes of hands-on training.
Two-hour program gets one 15-minute break.
