Project updates

November 2024

The engineering design stage of the Station Road Drainage Improvements Project has recently begun. The following briefly describes key aspects of the project:

Background

  • Concerns have been raised by residents and Town staff due to frequent ponding of water and accumulation of loose gravel and sand on the sidewalk and edge of the pavement along a portion of Station Road. These conditions pose safety concerns and increase maintenance efforts.
  • There is also an opportunity to improve the pedestrian and cyclist connection between Station Road, the pedestrian bridge on the Pefferlaw River and the Woodlands subdivision with access to York Regional trails. Creation of this connection will enhance pedestrian and cyclist safety while supporting additional active transportation in Georgina.
  • The objectives of the project include design and construction of:
    • The necessary drainage improvements on a portion of Station Road
    • A multi-use pathway or sidewalk along a portion of Old Homestead Road
  • In October 2024, Chisholm Fleming and Associates was awarded the engineering assignment for the project.
  • The main elements of the design phase of the engineering assignment include investigations, preliminary design, detailed design and tendering.

Current status

  • The project kick-off meeting took place on Nov. 6, 2024
  • The following tasks are currently underway:
    • Background review of available data
    • Site investigations and surveying
    • Residents fronting the projects limits have received notifications

Next steps

  • Complete preliminary design
  • Detailed design
  • Tendering
  • Construction is targeted to begin in spring/summer 2025
