The Town of Georgina Recreation Services Division and the Georgina Public Library are proud to announce a new project - Live Well Georgina - Turning the page on age that are now available. This project is funded by the Senior’s Community Grant through the Government of Ontario.

Check out all the new and exciting programs being offered at no charge for adults 55 years of age and older!

Registration is not required for the Ageless Grace, Nia or Chair Yoga drop-in programs. Join us at the town facility on the date and time listed below. These programs are first come, first served.

Are you under 55 years of age? Use your Rec Pass to access the Ageless Grace, Nia or Chair Yoga programs! Don't have a Rec Pass? Get one, or attend for only $11 + HST per class.

Ageless Grace

A fun class where you'll be guided through seated exercises based on natural movements that connect the body with the brain. This program is great for all people of all abilities!

Nia

Participants will learn elements of dance, martial arts and healing arts that, together, increase overall wellbeing of mind and body. Please bring a yoga mat and water bottle with you.

Chair Yoga

Chair Yoga offers a gentle yoga workout that increases circulation, reduces stress and improves overall flexibility. Chair yoga is a low impact workout that is done with a series of poses and postures that are performed seated or while holding a chair. Participants must wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat.

Cornhole Club – 55+

We are excited to invite you to join our brand new Cornhole Club! 

  • Weekly games with players of all skill levels. 
  • Meet new people, enjoy post-game hangouts and be part of an active community.
  • No experience needed. We welcome everyone 55 years of age and up. Don’t worry if you’re new to the game – this Club is all about having fun.

Saturday afternoons from 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. at Club 55 Keswick, beginning Saturday, Jan. 6, 2025. No registration or membership necessary! Free for anyone 55 years of age and older (proof of age may be required).

Elder abuse awareness workshops

Five workshop series on elder abuse. Topics may include:

  • Elder Abuse 101 (includes overview of all forms of Abuse)
  • Ageism and senior’s rights
  • Senior bullying
  • Financial abuse: safeguarding finances 
  • Dementia and elder abuse
  • Reporting and laws/legislation
  • Elder abuse in Indigenous communities

Houseplant Care: An Engineer’s Approach

Join Darryl Cheng, author of 'The New Plant Parent' and 'The New Plant Collector', who will give tips on houseplant care. When you understand how houseplants work, you gain a deeper appreciation of them and how they'll grow - it's a healthy dose of practical science and realistic expectations! Copies of his books will be available for purchase.

Plate by Zumba

Plate by Zumba focuses on balancing nutrition and exercise. Participants will learn the basics of nutrition-science and how to navigate food in a healthy way to support daily exercise goals.

Registration is now open!  

Monday and Wednesday mornings, 8:30 a.m. - 9:15 a.m. at the MURC (Multi-use Recreation Centre), starting Saturday, Jan. 6, 2025.
Free for anyone 55 years of age and older.

Under 55 years of age? Register with your Rec Pass or pay the course fee of $65 (13 weeks). 

 

Resilience and Vitality Program

Five-week program for people 55 years of age and better, focusing on building and maintaining resilience and vitality as we age.
