Water and sanitary lateral installation services

What are water and sanitary laterals?

Water and sanitary laterals are essential underground pipes that connect individual properties to the municipal utility systems.

  • Water lateral: Brings clean drinking water from the municipal water main to the property.
  • Sanitary lateral: Carries wastewater from the property to the municipal sewer system.

The municipality is responsible for maintaining the section of these pipes up to the property line, while property owners are responsible for the pipes extending from the property line to the building. These laterals are vital for ensuring the supply of clean water and the efficient removal of waste.

When are new water and sanitary laterals required?

New water and sanitary laterals may be required under the following circumstances:

  • New developments: For new buildings, property redevelopment or subdivision development.
  • Existing lateral issues: When existing laterals are damaged or outdated.
  • Increased demand: When additional services, such as fire systems or additional units, increase the water or wastewater needs of the property.
