    Keswick dog park closed July 13 and 14

    The Keswick Dog Park, located at 685 Lake Dr. South, will be closed today and tomorrow, July 13 and 14, for construction work. The Town is installing some tile drainage to address the wet areas in the park.

    Water meter replacement program

    A water meter replacement program is taking place in Georgina starting the week of July 11, 2022. The approximately 380 affected homes will be notified by the Town. The affected streets include Lake Drive South, Hollywood Drive, Miami Drive, Annshiela Drive and Tampa Drive.

    These meters have reached the end of their lifecycle and a mandatory replacement is required. The Town is working with Neptune Technology Group to complete the replacements and these staff will be carrying photo ID badges.

    Town to assume ownership of Pefferlaw Dam

    The Town of Georgina is assuming ownership of the Pefferlaw Dam. Council has endorsed the decision that will see the ownership of the dam transition from the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority to the Town effective June 30, 2022.

    Heat warning in effect for Georgina

    Summer has arrived along with heat and humidity. Maximum temperatures will reach the low to possibly mid-thirties (degrees Celsius).

    Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high-risk category. The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

    Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

    Town of Georgina and Town of East Gwillimbury Joint Fire Services Assessment

    The Town of Georgina and the Town of East Gwillimbury have partnered to review fire and emergency services. A survey has been created to get feedback from each community to help plan the future of the fire service. Complete the survey and share your thoughts on the mission statement, vision statement and guiding principles. The survey will be open until the end of July.

    YSpace Business Incubator/Accelerator Hub supporting entrepreneurship

    The Town of Georgina and the Town of East Gwillimbury are excited to announce a partnership with York University’s YSpace on the expansion of YSpace programming into northern York Region. The two-year Business Incubator/Accelerator project will support entrepreneurs and accelerate economic growth during the recovery phase of the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

    Town purchases historic Pefferlaw cemetery

    The Town of Georgina has acquired Johnston cemetery in Pefferlaw. The Johnston cemetery is a designated heritage site beside the Pefferlaw Fire Hall. Robert Johnston and his brother William Johnston founded Pefferlaw in the 1820’s, and several members of the family are buried at the cemetery.

    “This is something that we have been working diligently on, and I am pleased that we were able to do this for the Johnston family – and for Pefferlaw, given its historical significance to the community,” said Mayor Margaret Quirk.

    AIMS parking system down for maintenance

    The AIMS parking system will be down for maintenance today, Monday, June 13, for eight hours beginning at 7 p.m.

    During this time, residents will not be able to access the AIMS platform and will not be able to order permits and parking passes, search for a ticket, pay a ticket online, or file a request to appeal a ticket through the online parking management software.
