    Watershed conditions statement - water safety

    The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority advises that Environment Canada has released a special weather statement forecasting a cold front moving in from the west bringing showers and occasional thunderstorms. The current forecast suggests between 25 – 50mm of rainfall is possible between tonight and through Tuesday, with locally higher amounts in areas that receive thunderstorms. However, there is some uncertainty with the track and timing of this cold front that will move across the area, therefore timing and total rainfall amounts could change.

    Town honours Volunteer Award of Merit recipients

    The Town of Georgina honoured members of the community with the 2020-21 Volunteer Award of Merit at a ceremony at the ROC on Friday, May 27, 2022. The pandemic prevented the Town from recognizing volunteers in 2020, so these awards honour individuals, teams and groups who volunteered in 2020 or 2021.

    Changes to the bag tag program coming

    Starting July 4, 2022, the Town of Georgina will implement changes to its Bag Tag program. Residents will be able to place up to two bags or containers/items out for pickup every other week on their regularly scheduled collection day and any additional waste will require a bag tag. Residents can put up to a maximum of five bags/items of garbage out, two free and three paid.

    Georgina is ready for the summer season

    The Victoria Day long weekend is the unofficial start to summer and the Town of Georgina is getting ready for the 2022 summer season. Warmer temperatures are here and that means summer is not far behind. The Town offers a variety of outdoor recreation areas, parks, waterfront beaches, sports fields and splash pads for use by residents and visitors.

    Tennis and pickleball courts  
    Tennis courts, basketball and pickleball courts will be maintained from mid-May through mid-October. Weather permitting, netting will be installed around mid-May.

    New swim program coming to the Georgina Leisure Pool

    Starting with the summer session, the Town of Georgina will be moving from the Canadian Red Cross Learn to Swim and Lifeguard program to delivering the Lifesaving Society’s Swim for Life program at the Georgina Leisure Pool.

    Candidate nomination period in Georgina opens May 2

    Calling all candidates. Thinking of running for municipal office? The nomination period for the 2022 Municipal Election begins May 2 and will remain open until Aug. 19, 2022 at 2 p.m.   

    The Clerk’s Division will be accepting nominations for the positions of Mayor, one Regional Councillor, five Ward Councillors, trustees for the York Region District School Board and York Catholic District School Board, and trustees for the two French-language school boards.

    Town approves new outdoor amenities for Pefferlaw

    The Town of Georgina is moving forward with new outdoor amenities for the community of Pefferlaw. As a result of the Pefferlaw Recreation Needs Study, Council has approved a new combined skate and pump park, an outdoor sports zone on the Pefferlaw Ice Pad (PIP) for use outside the winter season, improve and enhance existing pathway connections and park amenities and a community garden. The new amenities will be on the grounds of Pefferlaw Park at 38 Pete’s Lane.

    Sewer flushing in Georgina

    The Water Division has started sewer maintenance in order to prevent blockages and sewer backups. Sewer flushing is taking place in south Keswick between Old Homestead and Ravenshoe Road. The crew is taking every precaution possible to avoid any inconvenience but occasional toilet splashes may occur in locations with deficient plumbing. Ensure toilet lids are kept closed when not in use.
