The Town offers recreation, education and fitness opportunities and workshops for adults and young adults (aged 15+) and older adults (55+). Summer program registration for residents opens June 4, 2024 and non-residents opens June 11, 2024.

Food Handlers Certification Course

The Link Kitchen
Become a certified food handler in approximately five hours with our certified food handling instructor. This fun and interactive course is ideal for those in or entering the food service industry who want quality food safety training. Learners will gain all of the knowledge and skills needed to prepare food safely and ensure safe food practices are followed at any food premises. Upon successful completion of the final exam, participants receive a food handler certificate recognized by public health authorities in all Canadian provinces and territories. Please note: This is a hybrid learning course. Participants will receive their learning materials approximately one week in advance to the program start date (in-person pick-up or mail-out options available - some limitations may apply). Participants will be required to complete their own learning ahead of the program start date and then attend in person to complete an in-class review and exam with the instructor. The Fashion Sketching and Illustration workshop, provides an introduction to those interested in fashion design as a career or new hobby. Students will learn the fundamentals of drawing 10-head figures with correct proportions and clothing, along with proper shading and illustration techniques. This workshop will cover industry-standard concepts and practices used in today's fashion industry.

SLT/Club – Multi-Purpose Room at SLT/Club 55 Japanese Embroidery Bunka, also known as Bunka Shishu is an art using Rayon thread with styles like needles to stitch beautiful pictures presented in a kit. Register now and learn to craft your own wonderfully detailed work of art. To participate, you must have moderate experience with other types of stitching eg: needlepoint, crewel, embroidery. Also, pattern reading (knitting/crocheting) is an asset. Additional costs for program materials/tools for this program range from $50-$70 depending on the project. The cost of these items is non-refundable. A work frame is provided but must be returned to the instructor upon completion of the picture. Health Maintenance QiGong exercises are based on system combining both healing and training. You will be introduced to 24 movements which are divided into three sections the first set focuses on the upper body, the second set on the low back and the waist, and the third set on the joints of the hips, knees and ankles. Each class will begin with basic relaxation techniques followed by QiGong postures, movements, self-performed acupuncture techniques and cool-down movements.

Pefferlaw Sports Zone - East Court at Pefferlaw Lion's Park
Pickleball - Ladder Play is a registered program for experienced intermediate or advanced level pickleball players. The object is to improve one’s game and work your way up the ladder. Top scoring player moves up a rung, low scoring player moves down a rung, etc.. Ladder play should not be considered competitive play but more quality play as you are playing with players at a similar level of play. Our experienced recreation staff are onsite to provide basic sport instruction and rules of play. Some equipment is available but limited. New to Pickleball? This registered program is for you! Our experienced recreation staff are onsite to provide basic sports instruction and rules of play. Games are played as singles or doubles (depending on number of attendees). Players are assigned to matches using the bucket system? to ensure equal playtime and more even teams (when possible). Some equipment available but limited.
Note: This location has two courts equipped with portable pickleball nets and temporary court lines. If you are looking for an open play program or a more competitive level of play, please check our drop-in schedules at the Georgina Gym and Pefferlaw Lions Hall for more play times.
