We’re gearing up for winter fun with a fantastic lineup of recreation programs. Enjoy a wide range of activities, from ski and snowboard lessons to swimming and fitness classes. Parent and tot - ages 4 months to 3 years

Parent and Tot 1

Designed for 4 to 12-month-old children to learn to enjoy the water with the parent.Orientation to water for toddlers and their parent/caregiver. Age is the only condition for entering this level. Swimmers learn how to use floating objects for support and explore different water movements through games, songs and active water play. The parent/caregiver also learns age-specific water safety. This level is participation-based only, without formal evaluation.

Ages: 4m to 1yr

Designed for 12 to 24-month-old children to learn to enjoy the water with the parent.Orientation to water for toddlers and their parent/caregiver. Age is the only condition for entering this level. Swimmers learn how to use floating objects for support and explore different water movements through games, songs and active water play. The parent/caregiver also learns age-specific water safety. This level is participation-based only, without formal evaluation.

Parent and Tot 3

Designed for 2 to 3-year-old children to learn to enjoy the water with the parent.Orientation to water for toddlers and their parent/caregiver. Age is the only condition for entering this level. Swimmers learn through fun games and songs, how to combine skills, how to kick with a buoyant object and how to perform basic floats, glides and kicks. This level is participation-based only, without formal evaluation.

Preschool - 3 to 5 years

Preschool 1

These preschoolers will have fun learning to get in and out of the water. We'll help them jump into chest-deep water. They'll float and glide on their front and back, and learn to get their face wet and blow bubbles underwater.

Preschool 2

These preschoolers learn to jump into chest-deep water by themselves and get in and get out wearing a lifejacket. They'll submerge and exhale underwater. While wearing a lifejacket, they'll glide on their front and back.

Prerequisite: Preschool 1

Preschool 3

These youngsters will try both jumping and a sideways entry into deep water while wearing a lifejacket. They'll recover objects from the bottom in waist-deep water. They'll work on kicking and gliding through the water on their front and back.

Preschool 4

Advanced preschoolers will learn to do solo jumps into deeper water and get out by themselves. They'll do sideways entries and open their eyes underwater. They'll master a short (5m) swim on their front, wearing a lifejacket and gliding and kicking on their side. These youngsters will try both jumping and a sideways entry into deep water while wearing a lifejacket. They'll recover objects from the bottom in waist-deep water. They'll work on kicking and gliding through the water on their front and back.

Prerequisite: Preschool 3

Preschool 5

These youngsters get more adventuresome with a forward roll entry wearing a lifejacket and treading water for 10 sec. They'll work on front and back crawl swims for 5m, interval training, and get a giggle out of whip kick.

Swimmer - 6 to 16 years

Swimmer 1

These beginners will become comfortable jumping into the water with and without a  lifejacket. They'll learn to open their eyes, exhale and hold their breath underwater. They'll work on floats, glides and kicking through the water on their front and back.

Swimmer 2

These advanced beginners will jump into deeper water and learn to be comfortable falling sideways into the water wearing a lifejacket. They'll be able to support themselves at the surface without an aid, learn whip kick, swim 10m on their front and back, and be introduced to flutter kick interval training (4 x  5m).

Prerequisite: Swimmer 1

Swimmer 3

These junior swimmers will dive and do in-water front somersaults and handstands. They'll work on 15m of front crawl, back crawl and 10m of whip kick. Flutter kick interval training increases to (4 x 15m).

Swimmer 4

These intermediate swimmers will swim 5m underwater and lengths of front, back crawl, whip kick, and breaststroke arms with breathing. Their new back of tricks includes the completion of the Canadian Swim to Survive Standard. They'll cap it all off with front crawl sprints over 25m and 4 x 25m front or back crawl interval training.

Swimmer 5

Swimmer 5: These swimmers will master shallow dives, cannonball entries, eggbeater kicks, and in-water backward somersaults. They'll refine their front and back crawl over  50m swims of each, and breaststroke over 25m. Then they'll pick up the pace in  25m sprints and two interval training bouts: 4 x 50m front or back crawl; and 4  x 15m breaststroke.

Prerequisite: Swimmer 4

Swimmer 6

Swimmer 6: These advanced swimmers will rise to the challenge of sophisticated aquatic skills, including stride entries, compact jumps and lifesaving kicks like eggbeater and scissor kicks. They'll develop strength and power in head-up breaststroke sprints over 25m. They'll easily swim lengths of front crawl, back crawl, and breaststroke and do a 300m workout.

Private - Leisure Pool

Located in the Leisure Pool. This is a one-to-one ratio swimming lesson that focuses on individual personal/physical needs and allows instructors to correct students individually by breaking down skills and techniques outside of a group environment.

Lifesaving Swim - Integrated Adapted

The Lifesaving Swim - Integrated Adapted program (with 1:1 support) facilitates our original Swim Adapted program and runs alongside group lessons.

Swim-for-life for swimmers with disabilities continues the progressions used in the Lifesaving Swim Preschool and Swimmer programs. Each skill is broken down into small manageable steps to create a positive learning environment and make the success of each swimmer more achievable. These steps have been created to help swimmers learn at their own pace using repetition and integration of new skills, which help swimmers move along the skill progression more effectively.

An Adapted Membership is required.

Lifesaving Swim - Sensory Adapted

The Lifesaving Swim - Sensory Adapted program (with 1:1 support) facilitates our original Swim Adapted program while providing the participant with a quiet and distraction-free swimming environment.

Swim-for-Life for swimmers with disabilities continues the progressions used in the Lifesaving Swim Preschool and Swimmer programs. Leadership

Swim Patrol - Rookie, Ranger, Star

The Canadian Swim Patrol program is the onramp to lifeguarding.

  • Rookie Patrol: Swimmers continue stroke development with 50m swims of front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke. Lifesaving Sport skills include a 25m obstacle swim, and 15m object carry. First aid focuses on assessing conscious victims, contacting EMS and treatment for bleeding. Fitness improves in 350m workouts and 100m timed swims.
  • Ranger Patrol: Swimmers develop better strokes over 75m swims of each stroke. They tackle Lifesaving Sports skills in a lifesaving medley, timed object support and rescue with a buoyant aid. First aid focuses on assessing unconscious victims and treating victims in shock and obstructed airway procedures. Skill drills develop a strong lifesaving foundation.
  • Star Patrol: Swimmers are challenged with 600m workouts, 300m timed swims, and a 25m object carry. Strokes are refined over 100m swims. First Aid focuses on treating bone or joint injuries and respiratory emergencies, including asthma and allergic reactions. Lifesaving skills include defence methods, victim removals and rolling over and supporting a victim face-up in shallow water.

Bronze Star

Bronze Star is excellent preparation for success in Bronze Medallion. Participants develop problem-solving and decision-making skills individually and with partners. Candidates learn CPR and develop the lifesaving skills needed to be their lifeguards. Includes a timed 400 m swim.

Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid with CPR-B

Bronze Medallion & Emergency First Aid- Teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education: judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness. Rescuers learn tows and carry, defence methods and releases in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk involving conscious and unconscious victims of various types. Lifesavers develop stroke efficiency and endurance in a 400m timed swim. 100% attendance is mandatory for Bronze Medallion.

Prerequisite: 13 years of age or Bronze Star

Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid with CPR-C

Bronze Cross & Standard First Aid with CPR 'C' - Designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of advanced training, including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross is a pre-requisite for all advanced training programs, including; National Lifeguard and Lifesaving Instructor certification programs. Includes a 400m timed swim. This program also includes Standard First Aid, which provides comprehensive training covering first aid and CPR. 100% attendance is mandatory.    

Prerequisite: 14 years of age, Bronze Medallion.

LSS Swim and Lifesaving Instructor Course

The Swim Instructor portion of the course prepares the individuals to teach and evaluate the swimming strokes and related skills found in the Lifesaving Society's Swim for Life program. Candidates acquire proven teaching methods, planning skills, and a variety of stroke development drills and correction techniques.
The Lifesaving Instructor portion of the course prepares individuals to organize, plan, teach and evaluate lifesaving and first aid skills and resuscitation techniques in the Society's lifesaving and first aid awards.
Successful candidates on the Lifesaving Instructor course receive two certification cards: Lifesaving Instructor and Emergency First Aid Instructor. Current Lifesaving Instructors are certified to teach: - Canadian Swim Patrol Program - Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross - Lifesaving Fitness, DistinctionThis course is 100% mandatory attendance.

Prerequisites: 15 years of age by the end of the course; Bronze Cross or NLS certification (need not be current).

National Lifeguard

Participants will learn to prevent accidents, identify hazards, determine safe practices, and educate the public about risks associated with aquatic activities and how to be safe around water. They are also trained to spot potential trouble and intervene before it becomes life-threatening. Includes a 400m timed swim. Lifeguarding is a fun, exciting and rewarding job; it is also a job that requires an enormous amount of responsibility. 100% attendance is mandatory.

Prerequisite: 15 years of age by the end of the course, Bronze Cross & Standard First Aid with CPR 'C'.

Adult 1

You'll work towards a 10-15m swim on your front and back. You'll do jump entries from the side and recover an object from the bottom in chest-deep water. Improve your fitness and your flutter kick with 4 x 9-12m interval training.
